The benefits of vitamin D

We’re hearing a lot about the benefits of Vitamin D - the sunshine vitamin - at the moment. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in only a very number of foods but is added to others. It is also produced when the sun’s UV rays reach our skin.

Vitamin D helps with theĀ absorption of calcium in the gut and it is also needed for bone growth. It is also important in the immune system.

If you can’t make it to the deckchair this week, or you are waiting for the sun to reappear, then plan a meal with fish such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel to top up your vitamin D supplies. Small amounts of vitamin D are also found in beef liver, cheese and egg yolks, plus some mushrooms.

Load a couple of our crispbreads, Seeds & Black Pepper would be a perfect choice, with a portion of cheese and, hey presto, a healthy lunch with added wonder vitamin!
