Hurrah for the long weekend!

Easter is almost upon us - a time for chocolate eggs, bunnies and flowers. What’s not to like?

For Christians it’s a celebration of Jesus rising from the dead three days after his crucifixion. The resurrection is a symbol of hope and new beginnings.

But originally it was a pagan festival, named after the goddess Eostre, according to the Venerable Bede, an English monk writing in Latin during the eighth century.

In most other European countries the word for Easter is derived from the Hebrew for Passover – ‘paques’ in French and ‘pasqua’ in Spanish, for example.

Either way, it’s a nice break before the serious enjoyment of summer gets under way. So yes, chocolates all round this weekend, back to healthy eating next week!
Have a lovely Easter everyone.
